Welcome to the Community

Our mission is to improve on Humanism and the Human Condition by raising the bar of communication and civil discourse. We do this by encouraging mutual humanization in all posts and comments. We hope to provide a safe place for people to share their thoughts and opinions, get involved in secular causes, keep up with news, and meet others. For some, it's a place to nurture Humanist principles. For others, it's a place for growth, forgiveness, redemption, and mercy. For still others, it's a place to go just have some fun with other humanists of all types.

Humanist.com is for singles, couples and parents who wish to find like minds and gain insights for better lives and a better community.

We are an inclusive Humanist site, which means anyone who subscribes to the secular Humanist value of "doing good is good, and striving for better is better" is invited. Humanist.com provides the platform for you to connect with good people who believe in the secular value of making the world a better place for all people. You are not alone, and in fact, you're in the majority!

Humanist.com is a non-profit organization that doesn’t charge anything, have ads or sell your information to anyone. Enjoy! Spread the word!

The following are core principles we agree with:

  1. Be open-minded and be willing to alter your beliefs with new evidence.
  2. Strive to understand what is most likely to be true, not to believe what you wish to be true.
  3. The scientific method is the most reliable way of understanding the natural world.
  4. Every person has the right to control of their body.
  5. A god is not necessary to be a good person or to live a full and meaningful life.
  6. Be mindful of the consequences of all your actions and recognize that you must take responsibility for them.
  7. Treat others as you would want them to treat you, and can reasonably expect them to want to be treated. Think about their perspective.
  8. We have the responsibility to consider others, including future generations.
  9. There is no one right way to live.
  10. Leave the world a better place than you found it.

Humanism an outlook that stresss the potential value and goodness of human beings, emphasize common human needs, and seek solely rational ways of solving human problems.

Community Guidelines
A key part of this site is the ability for members to post questions, comments, and links. As we want to ensure that this platform is inclusive and discussions lively yet productive, we would like members to consider the following guidelines. Help make this an intelligent place for discussion and it will be.
  1. Remember that people come to their own truth differently.
  2. We welcome debate and dissent but personal attacks, persistent trolling and similar abuse will not be tolerated.
  3. Avoid profanity, vulgarity, etc. Arguments have more impact if they are polite and respectful.
  4. Recognise that there is a difference between criticising a politician, government, organisation, religion or belief and attacking people.
  5. Keep comments as short as possible while still getting your point accross.
  6. Stay on topic. If you want to create a new topic thread, simply post it using the "Post" button at the top
  7. If you post a link to another site, please make sure that it's relevant to the discussion.
  8. Whenever possible, do a search first to see if the topic has already been posted. Feel free to comment on the original post as your comment will show up at the top of the list when sorted.
  9. Don't post anything commercial. If you think there is something that the community wants to buy, send it to us first :)

Please note that we reserve the right to remove any post for any reason. Obviously, we want to keep the discussion as open as possible but we have limits. While we do allow members who say they're religious to join, we not allow any religious proselytisation. We will also remove any content that may put us in legal jeopardy, such as potentially libellous or defamatory postings, or material posted in potential breach of copyright.

Two Websites in One
We share members and content (e.g., groups and posts) with our sister site at https://agnostic.com. That is, we have a single database and simply adjust the message slightly for the two domains. Agnosticism is the idea that beliefs must be supported with evidience. Learn more! Members can hide their profile from agnostic.com on the bottom of their settings page.

A special note to our religious humanists visitors and members. While we want you to feel comfortable here, please be aware that a very large percent of our members are non-believers as we share the same website as agnostic.com. You might therefore find the tone of this website to skew that ways. We want you to know that we are not advocating that your change your religous views either here or offline. However, we ask that you refrain from proselytizing here. Humanism is all about being nonjudgemental towards each others viewpoints nor being overly reactive if offended.
