I am a Cat Mom. I like dogs, and hope to have one again one day. Cats are my fur kids.
I hope I am always kind (heavy traffic doesn't count... well, shouldn't) I have a good sense of humor and sense of what matters. I am very protective of those I care for.
I have lived all over the US and overseas as well, 23 moves in my life. After 19 moves I ended up 50 miles from where I was born, I've lived in Omaha for 14 years.

The Happiness Trap: Why You’re Never Satisfied and How to Break the Cycle
HippieChick58 comments on Mar 30, 2019:
Good article. I agree that we don't find happiness by comparing ourselves to the Joneses. We're not the Joneses, and those things important to the Joneses are not important to me. I find that TV is one of the biggest traps for unhappiness in modern life. Generally all advertising. Stuff is sold to us by making us feel like were missing out if we don't have it, or we won't achieve our full potential without it. In fact FOMO has been coined because of it, Fear of Missing Out. Beer commercials show the good life with a six pack and our buddies. Cosmetics commercials tell us we're not good enough without that goop on our face. You can't sell a product unless you can create a need for it, and you can't create a need for it if people don't know about it and why they need it. I won't even get started on "fashion." I'm quite happy "Missing Out." I'm going to save my time and my money for what is important as I decide they are important.

HippieChick58 comments on Mar 30, 2019:
My take on this is that we are conditioned by the society that we live in, and by the images and ideas imprinted on us from the time we are born. My dad swore like a sailor, and he was a non believer. I grew up hearing Jesus Christ, god damn it, and other religious terms used as a pejorative terms. I think under periods of extreme stress our minds go back to those early memories and reactions. When my dad hit his thumb with a hammer he let loose with something akin to J.... F.... C....!!! He wasn't praying. When I was in a near miss accident recently I did cut loose with similar sentiments. Trust me, I wasn't praying for the soul of either one of us.
Do you ever get an uncanny feeling that someone's watching you...?

What you are eating will often be the problem, not necessarily that you are eating too much. My weight loss successes have occurred when I cut sugars out of my diet. Cutting out sugar will also help with the hunger between meals as sugar stimulates the appetite. Make you snacks crunch and high fiber. My snack of choice is usually fresh veggies or mixed nuts. As others have said exercise will help. Also just for grins try keeping track of everything you are eating and plug it into a calculator to get the calorie amount so you have a solid idea of how many calories you're actually getting. And lastly, water. Drink lots of water. Often time we are thirsty and mistake it for hunger. All medications have a possibility of causing some dehydration. Before you have that meal or snack drink a glass of water and see if that helps. And good luck.

And then I think, with the right person we could... Road trips are more fun with two, dining out is more fun with two. It's human nature, or so I'm told. But at the end of the day I need to be with the right person, not just any other person. So for now, I am the right person for me to be with, and most of the time I'm totally OK with that. In blow to climate, coal plants emitted more than ever in 2018 - The Washington Post
HippieChick58 comments on Mar 25, 2019:
Global energy experts released grim findings Monday, saying that not only are planet-warming carbon-dioxide emissions still increasing, but the world’s growing thirst for energy has led to higher emissions from coal-fired power plants than ever before. Energy demand around the world grew by 2.3 percent over the past year, marking the most rapid increase in a decade, according to the report from the International Energy Agency. To meet that demand, largely fueled by a booming economy, countries turned to an array of sources, including renewables. But nothing filled the void quite like fossil fuels, which satisfied nearly 70 percent of the skyrocketing electricity demand, according to the agency, which analyzes energy trends on behalf of 30 member countries, including the United States. In particular, a fleet of relatively young coal plants located in Asia, with decades to go on their lifetimes, led the way toward a new record for emissions from coal fired power plants — exceeding 10 billion tons of carbon dioxide “for the first time," the agency said. In Asia, “average plants are only 12 years old, decades younger than their average economic lifetime of around 40 years,” the agency found. As a result, greenhouse-gas emissions from the use of energy — by far their largest source —surged in 2018, reaching an all-time record high of 33.1 billion tons. Emissions showed 1.7 percent growth, well above the average since 2010. The growth in global emissions in 2018 alone was “equivalent to the total emissions from international aviation," the body found. Monday’s report underscores an unnerving truth about the world’s collective efforts to combat climate change: Even as renewable energy rapidly expands, many countries — including the United States and China — are nevertheless still turning to fossil fuels to satisfy ever-growing energy demand. “Very worrisome" is how Michael Mehling, deputy director of the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, described Monday’s findings. “To me, all this reflects the fact that climate policies around the globe, despite some limited pockets of progress, remain woefully inadequate,” he said in an email. “They’re not even robust enough to offset the increased emissions from economic expansion, especially in the developing world, let alone to spur decarbonization at levels commensurate with the temperature stabilization goals we’ve committed to under the Paris Agreement.” Mehling questioned whether the Paris climate agreement — the 2015 global accord in which countries vowed to slash their carbon emissions — has the capacity to compel nations to live up to their promises and ramp up climate action over...

OK, noticed this picture elsewhere and decided it fit here, and decided I wasn't done. @Marcie1974, What can you do or are you willing to do to change your feelings of loneliness and worthlessness? You have value, we all have value, you need to decide what your value is, and do something to affirm it. What can you change? Is it realistic? If it isn't realistic let it go, and I know that is hard. There is an old prayer that fits, but we'll drop off the god part. You need peace to accept the things you cannot change, you need the courage to change the things you can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
