This is why I don't have a tree in my house.

I have shopped on black Friday twice. Once when I started the divorce and needed to get some stuff as we (me and kid) were moving to an apartment the following weekend. The second time I was working Thanksgiving day, it was snowy and crazy. while at work I dropped my cell phone and killed it, and realized I had no way to call anyone if I had any problems with the roads on my way home. I don't have any phone numbers memorized anymore, I rarely dial anyone on my contact list. My Christmas shopping for this year is done, I think. If it isn't we will call it Sam's Birthday shopping, her birthday is Dec 25th.

How do you deal with religion with your kids
HippieChick58 comments on Nov 22, 2019:
When my kids were growing up (they are now 27 to 34) we went to church, I was a bible study leader, director of VBS, and active in committees and lay leadership. I was a "church lady". 15 years ago we moved to Omaha and I could not find a church I was comfortable with. Nebraska is way more conservative than I liked, but we ended up in a conservative church because the kid still at home knew kids there, and I had plans for the future that I wanted her to have a good support group. I chose divorce about 10ish years ago, my ex had grown way too conservative and way too invested in his xian website. He put the website above family. I moved out with the youngest, and she and her dad continued going to the church. I drifted, and then moved further and further away from religion. My mind cleared and I saw the light. The two older kids came out as atheist/agnostic, and the youngest still goes to church to keep daddy happy, and her social group, she is now the pianist for the church. It might change, she just moved further away from the church and I think the drive in will be too much with her family obligations. We were a military family so we moved frequently, and military at the time was so inclusive of other faiths and backgrounds, my kids were encouraged to learn everything. My ex is more alarmed that the middle child is atheist than that she is gay.

And if you want to make her day, send an email or letter to the director of billing or Chief Financial Officer and tell them how well you think she did. That gets noticed and that will boost her standing with the company. I had a parent tell me how well one of my team had done for them, helping to figure out which order in which to pay which bills, I mean this was organized to the nth degree. Everyone’s Missing the Obvious About the Declining U.S. Birth Rate
HippieChick58 comments on Nov 13, 2019:
For the past several days, my Facebook feed, Twitter timeline, and evening news have been filled with stories on the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s latest report about the declining birth rate of U.S. women. Despite the breadth of the data included in its January 2019 vital statistics update, the CDC statistic generating the biggest headlines is the one that calculates the birth rate in the U.S. to be 16 percent below the amount needed to replace our population over time. Most of the stories dominating the news cycle have sensational, clickbait headlines: “Women in the U.S. Are Having Fewer Babies” (Time); “U.S. Fertility Rates Have Plummeted Into Uncharted Territory, and Nobody Knows Why” (Science Alert); “The U.S. Is in the Danger Zone for a ‘Demographic Time Bomb’” (Insider); and “Florida, U.S. Have a Baby Problem” (Orlando Sentinel). Among my personal favorites are the headlines where women are blamed as if it’s all immaculate conception — “Women Aren’t Having Enough Babies to Replace Ourselves” (Moms). But all of the news noise is missing the glaringly obvious facts that every millennial I know recognizes immediately. Here are seven real reasons behind the declining birth rate: 1. The U.S. has the highest maternal mortality rate of all developed countries. When NPR and ProPublica investigated maternal mortality in the U.S., their findings were clear: “More American women are dying of pregnancy-related complications than any other developed country. Only in the U.S. has the rate of women who die been rising.” Here, around 26 out of every 100,000 pregnant women die each year, and while some European and Eurasian countries have rates in the teens, the U.S. maternal mortality rate is rising while most other countries are seeing their rates decline. The U.K., for example, has a rate of around nine in every 100,000 women dying, but the Lancet noted that country’s efforts to reduce maternal mortality has meant “being pregnant in the U.K. has never been safer.” Not to mention that our rate remains three times greater and is increasing. The lowest rates around the globe are three deaths per 100,000. Which means that compared with women in places like Finland, Iceland, and Greece, mothers in the U.S. are dying at a rate that’s nine times greater. That’s not even taking race into account. The CDC reports that black women in the U.S. are three to four times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes as their white counterparts. But it’s not just a higher risk of death here in the U.S. that makes birth difficult, it’s also a matter of cost. 2. Giving birth in the U.S. is exceedingly expensive. The United States is the most expensive place in the world to give birth. In the ...

We're humans, we're moms/daughters/grandmothers, we have bills too. We KNOW your struggles we can figure out the words with you. Every hospital does things differently, every hospital has different programs, and different states have loads of different regulations. Call your hospitals, they know all the ins and outs. I'd like to tell you that all Customer Service folks are good people and like to help, but I'd say based on my hospital that would be 83% of them, but it is still a majority.

I got a pin from the the hospital I work for. We were told we could pick the pins up in the Hospital Atrium... however office staff (we're across the street) can't wear jeans into the hospital, and since I didn't know about it until after 8 this morning, I was in my normal office attire - jeans. So it was delivered to my desk :) I didn't get no hug though... One of my kids texted me that I was her favorite vet. I'm willing to bet she told her dad the same thing, but maybe not...

I agree, I'd much rather have real bennies. But I also want to acknowledge to military families that I **know** your sacrifice and I appreciate it. Seriously, it makes my lead craycray when I talk to people with Tricare and I tell them I appreciate their service, especially the female soldiers and Air Force personnel. We gets lots of families from Offutt AFB using the hospital I work at. I wore that uniform for more than 6 years and then I was a "camp follower" for 12 more years. I know what it is to live far from family, I know what it is to move every few years. I know what it is to have the military member deployed for long periods of time. I know how to single parent because of the military. To me when I say Thank you for your service, I am saying I understand the struggle, I've been there, and I will vote to do better for you. Yeah, if it is a politician I'm going to check his/her voting record and likely tune them out. And Cadet Bonespurs just needs to STFU.
Says it all!

I had a big garden in the back yard in Washington state. One year I took the carve jack o lantern and set him on the garden border where I could see it from the kitchen window.. I watched that pumpkin decompose all winter. Kinda like donnie boy is decomposing now, just a pile of oozy shit that will get buried and ploughed into the soil.

I just let it roll. I am a boomer, I remember Kent State and the moon landing. I am a Hippie, ie my user name. I think this is blow back and we're going to get a bit of spray. How often have the millennials been put down for just for being? I got compared to a millennial. My Gen X supervisor told me I was acting like a whiny millennial by asking for feedback on what I did right.... That and a few other things were an awakening. I think the anger is directed at the Gen X. I have three children that are millennials. They are angry. They are a product of their upbringing and now they are getting shat on by Gen X and Boomers. They may never be able to retire. They will likely not have SS or Medicare. I'd like to slap all the conservative rethuglican members of my generation and ask them what the hell they are thinking. They have become corporate mindless bots. They have missed our calling. My parent's generation, the Greatest Generation is rolling in their graves over what the f--king president is doing. There is just tons of anger out there, and I don't blame the millennials for being scared and angry. They're overloaded. Don't respond in anger. Let them know we're working for the same cause.
Why is it so hard to find a lover that shares the same beliefs?
