And the Wall came tumbling down.

30 years ago the wall separating West & East Berlin fell. It was constructed 8/13/1961 by East Germany to keep the East Germans from fleeing to the West.

Officially, the wall was called "antifaschistischer Schutzwall" - anti-fascist wall, it was erected in order to prevent a fascist invasion from the West...
I really would like to know if there were many Communists in the GDR who really believed this nonsense

The most important reason for its fall was the demise of the socialist ideology in Hungary and the removal of the fencing with the Austrian border.

This was the leak in the dam!

Thank you - I didn’t realize Hungary started the events that ultimately lead to the Berlin Wall coming down.
